Antique religious print, titled: 'S. Philippus'. It shows a full-length portrait of Saint Philip the Apostle, holding a tau cross. Original mezzotint engraving on a verge type handlaid paper. Description: This print originates from the 11th edition of the Kurfursten Bible (the Luther translation "Biblia, Das isst: die Gantze Heilige Schrift" published by Endters in Nurnberg, from 1641 onwards), published in 1708. Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Gabriel Ehinger after Johann Jacob von Sandrart. Gabriel Ehinger (1652-1736) was a German painter, printmaker and etcher from Augsburg. Johann Jacob von Sandrart (1655-1698) was the son of Jacob von Sandrart, an engraver, art dealer and publisher from Nurnberg. Condition: Good, given age. Small stains in the right margin, top right corner paper loss restored (backed with contemporary paper and acid-free archival tape), a small closed tear in the bottom margin, two small closed tears in the left margin.
