Original antique print: 'Romantic sheep herdsman scene'. It shows: a shepherd and his belle amidst his flock of sheep. She holds a basket of flowers in her hand while lounging against his chest. Original sepia line etching and mezzotint style tone engraving on a verge type handlaid paper. Description: No. 18 from a series of herdsman scenes published c. 1780.Artists and Engravers: Artist: Jean-Baptiste Huet. Jean-Baptiste Huet (Paris 1745-1811) was a French painter, engraver and designer associated with pastoral and genre scenes of animals in the Rococo manner. He was influenced by Francois Boucher. Huet was born into a family of artists - his uncle was Christophe Huet, his father Nicolas Huet - and apprenticed to Charles Dagomer. In 1764 Huet entered the studio of Jean-Baptiste le Prince, where he further developed his printmaking skills. Condition: Excellent, given age. Margins cropped to the image edge.
