Plate: S. Simon. Statue of the Apostle Simon the Zealot (Simon Zelotes / Kananaois) holding a book and a saw. Engraving on a verge type of hand-laid paper. Description: This original antique print originates from a series of engravings of statues from the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran, a cathedral church in Rome. The series was published ca. 1785.Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Pietro Leone Bombelli after a statue by Francesco Moratti (1669-1719). Pietro Leone Bombelli (1737-1809) was an Italian painter and engraver from Rome, student of Pozzi. Condition: Very good, given age. A faint dampstain in the lower right corner (minimally affecting the far edge of the image). Minimal age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
