Plate 4: Kermis wind-kraamer en grossier. (The wholesale wind-peddlerïs fair.) Broadside with verse in Dutch and French. A broker selling certificates which are blown out of proportion. Rats are housing the treasury chest. Etching/engraving on verge type hand laid paper with watermark. Description: Original engraved print from "Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid, vertoonende de opkomst, voortgang en ondergang der Actie, Bubbel en Windnegotie, in Vrankryk, Engeland, en de Nederlanden, gepleegt in den Jaare MDCCXX �", Amsterdam, 1720. (The Great Mirror of Folly, which is actually a collection on all printsmaps and text, published in 1720, satirizing the Englishman John Law, his Mississippi Company, and the international land and trading speculation in worthless shares of the South Sea Bubble of 1719-1720, which resulted in an international scandal.Artists and Engravers: Anonymous engraver; Verse by Q. Verwoude and S. Civilien. Condition: Excellent given its age. Paper separation at lower left, as often from handling, reinforced using contemporary paper.
