Antique print, titled: Retour au Presbytere apres un dejeuner chez leur collegue voisin ('Back to the Presbytery after lunch at their neghbour colleague'). It shows a female swineherd looking at a group of priests. One of the priests clings dearly to a donkey's neck, while the donkey seems to refuse to carry his heavy load. Two of the fellow priests try to get the animal to move forward. Lithograph on a vellin type paper, with hand colouring and pochoir colouring. Description: This print originates from a series of satirical prints, critisizing religious practices and men of the cloth.Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Lefman after Lavrate. Ferdinand Lefman (active c. 1890) was a French printmaker (in wood engraving, etching and lithography and especially gillotage). Edmond Lavrate (Orleans 1829 - Paris 1888) was a lithographer active in advertising and caricature. Condition: Good, given age.
