Antique print, titled: 'Thesei Templum. Theatrum Atheniensium.' - Plate 2: (Temple of Theseus. The Theatre of Athens.) This plate shows the Temple of Thesus and the Theatre of Athens in Greece. A fine architectural print. Description: This scarse highly decorative original old antique print / plate originates from: 'Ruinen und Ueberbleibfel von Athen, nebst andern merkwurdigen Alterthumer Griechenlands, herausgegeben von M. Robert Sayer in London.' (Ruins and remains of Athens, next to other curious ancient sites of Greece, published by M. Robert Sayer in London.), published by Conrad Heinrich Stage, Augsburg, 1782. This edition is a translation from the original 1759 English edition: 'Ruins of Athens and other valuable Antiquities in Greece.'Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Georg Christoph Kilian' after an anonymous artist. The etchings / engravings are engraved by Georg Christoph Kilian, German engraver, collector, and cartographer (1709-1781), after Jean Barbault (c. 1705-1766), a French painter and engraver. Kilian was a student of Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Original etching/engraving on verge (hand laid) paper. Anonymous. Good, given age. Original middle fold, as issued. Two small wormholes in right part of print, not visible. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 24.2 x 31.2 cm.
