Antique print, titled: 'T. VII Venere e Amore in Agata Sardonica.' - This print depicts a gem (in agate) showing Venus and Amor. This scarse original antique engraving originates from: 'Museum Odescalchum, sive Thesaurus . Christina Suecurum regina .', by Niccolo Galeotti / Pietro Santo Bartoli, Rome, Italy, 1751-1752. This is the former gem collection of queen Christina of Sweden, then kept in the collection of the Odescalchi family in Rome. Original copperplate engraving and etching on hand laid (verge) paper. Made by 'Pietro Santo Bartoli' after an anonymous artist. The author of this work is Niccolo Galeotti (1692-1758). This engraving is engraved by the Perugia, Italy born Pietro Santo Bartoli (1635-1700). He was a student of the French artist Poussin. His nickname was Perugino. He was antiquarian to both the Queen Christina and Benedetto Odescalchi (1611-1689), who became Pope in 1676 under the name of Innocent XI. Excellent, given age.
