Antique print, untitled. Four Indian people crossing a path of burning coals. One of the men carries a small child. The other carry religious implements. In the background four men carry a statue on a bier. Etching / engraving on hand laid paper. Description: From: 'Voyage aux Indes Orientales et a la Chine …', by Pierre Sonnerat, published in Paris in 1782. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Poisson' after 'Pierre Sonnerat'. Jean-Baptiste-Marie Poisson (1747-1820) was a French engraver. Pierre M. Sonnerat (1745-1814) was a French naturalist and draughtsman. Condition: Excellent, given age. Two original folds, as issued. A small stain in left bottom of the print. Left edge remargined using contemporary paper backed with acid free archival tape. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
