Antique print, titled: 'Battle of the Bidassoa, October 9, 1813.' - Depiction of the Battle of Bidassoa, also the Battle of Larrun, in which the British army under Wellesley gained a foothold on French soil. Etching and aquatint, handcoloured, on vellin (wove) paper. Description: James Jenkins 'The Martial Achievements of Great Britain', published in London, 1822. The most famous English colour plate book recording the military endeavours of the Napoleonic wars, considered by Hardie to be "a brilliant and worthy record of a brilliant period in our country s history." Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Thomas Sutherland' after 'William Heath'. Thomas Sutherland (ca. 1785- ca. 1820) was an English aquatint etcher. William Heath(1794 1840) was aBritishartist.
