Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 8.1 x 12.2 inch. The image size is ca. 6.3 x 5.1 inch.Print relating to Maastricht during the first decades of the eighty year war: (plate 76). This plate shows battle between the Spanish under the Duke of Alva and the Dutch armies of Prince William of Orange on the 'Dousberg' near Maastricht on Oct. 9, 1568. This attractive original old antique print / plate set in a text page originates from: 'Oorspronck, begin ende vervolgh der Nederlantsche Oorlogen.', by P.C. Bor, published in Leyden by Govert Basson and Amsterdam by Michiel Colyn 1621-1634. This important work on the first five decades of the 80 Years War raging in the Netherlands, Belgium and the western part of Germany from 1568-1648. Many of the plates are after 'Geschichtsblatter' by Frans Hogenberg and after plates from J. J. Orlers' work. New plates were added as well. Most of the plates were used before in the work of Baudartius published in 1616.Artists and Engravers: Pieter Bor, or Pieter Christiaensz Bor (1559-1635) was a Dutch Golden Age writer and historian. The engravings were done by several engravers, amongst whom was Simon Wynhoutsz. Frisius (1580-1629).Condition: Fine.
