Original stone lithograph published circa 1950 in a very small edition. Signed and Titled by the Artist in in Pencil. Image size is 9 1/2 inches by 13 1/2 inches. Clarence William Anderson (1891-1971) was a writer and illustrator of children's books, but he also is considered by many to be one of the preeminent equine artists of the 20th century. He was a painter and etcher, but his preferred medium was black and white stone lithigraphy because it enabled him to capture the subtle tones he desired. Black and white reproductions of his lithographs have been published in portfolios and are relatively common. His true stone lithographs, like this one, are scarce, and "The Boss and Scidoo" rarely comes on the market. Ours is a particularly nice example, in near-fine condition, with barely a hint of the toning usually seen in Anderson's lithographs.
