John Lawrence Doyle was a student of the human condition. He was first an artist and second an anthropologist. He wryly placed his humans in common settings of an almost caricaturist environment. In his Gamblers Suite, he took all aspects of the human professional gambler of the 1880's. Whether male or female subjects that all express a common denominator of hustler. Even his slot machines have the human container as the subject. The Reverend slot machine stands tall with his pointing finger up on his pulling hand Three bells have come up on the slot.
