Beschreibung:

Henri Abraham Chatelain's "Atlas Historique". The work was published by the author in Amsterdam between 1718 and 1720. The text was combiled by Gueudeville & Garillon. The maps were completed by Chatelain some influenced by Guillaume de l'Isle's work. The work was published in several editions, and the second edition was the first to include additional maps not found in the first including a map of the world, Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa. --- "Atlas Historique" was a highly ambitious and groundbreaking work covering genealogy, cosmography, topography, heraldry, and chronology. It was intended for the general public and the increased fascination with the recently conquered colonies and the new discoveries. Chatelain's maps are an outstanding example of the golden age of French mapmaking. --- The work is in very good to excellent condition overall. There may be some faint offset or minor imperfections to be expected with age. Please review the image carefully for condition and contact us with any questions. Zustand: Very Good. An engaging overview of Denmark, with views of Frederiksberg, Copenhagen, and Bergen. The copperplate-engraved sheet was originally published in Paris as part of Henri Abraham Chatelain's important Atlas Historique. This monumental seven-volume set was first issued in Amsterdam between 1705 and 1720, but was re-printed in numerous in several subsequent editions until the late 1730s. The scholarly, but approachable, work was aimed at a broad audience, eager for new information during the Age of Enlightenment. The breadth of content offers a nuanced synthesis of geography, cosmography, history, religion, ethnology, and political science. The descriptive text (in French) and skillfully engraved maps, diagrams, and illustrations provide a fascinating window into the world of the early 18th century. Sheet Width (in) 19.8 Sheet Height (in) 17.4 Condition Description "Spotting along the vertical centerfold, along with about 1" of clean separation in the lower margin. About an inch of worming affects the upper portion of the title in the top margin. Lightly toned around the edges of the sheet. Issued on watermarked paper.". Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers AH_00038
