Original Lance Hidy color print from May 1992. Signed, titled, and dated by Hidy. 8" x 8", within 13" x 12" matte. Without blemishes. Provenance as a personal gift from Hidy to a friend in Berryville, Virginia has been verified. Yale-trained Hidy came to prominence as the renowned leader in computer graphic design and illustration, touring for Adobe to preach the gospel of technology-aided methods. In "Dream Dog," he moves away from his usual human outlines filled with flat color to work with photo collage, in a symbolic and sardonic mode, � la Richard Hamilton. The print shows late 20th-century pallbearers carrying a flag-draped casket in the visual space behind a foregrounded electrified dog, and in front of a female and male nude, all placed against an ominous cloud-encircled sun. A masonic-inspired eye-within-heart icon floats in the lower left corner. Lagniappe free with this print: a paperback copy of "Lance Hidy's Posters," the catalog from Alphabet Press for the 1983 Hidy exhibitions at the University of Maryland and the Boston Public Library, with an essay by Alan Fern, director of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.
