Incisione all'acquaforte di mm 398 x 295 alla battuta. Il foglio è inserito nella sua bella cornice verde originale settecentesca, con il vetro dell'epoca. Sotto al centro "Le François galant" e lateralmente "Gallico genio si palesa e scopre Tra pettini, pomate, e specchi e fiori, Tentasi in van di mascherare i cori, Poichè svelan la mente i fatti e l'opre". Il foglio fa parte di una serie di incisioni di Wagner da dipinti di Maggiotto e Berardi, a proposito di uno dei quali Succi afferma "La scenetta fu attinta dal Wagner dal repertorio che Maggiotto andava svolgendo al di fuori della linea accademica e aulica. Il successo di questa piacevoli composizioni fu notevole e la loro richiesta da parte di un certo tipo di collezionismo meno impegnato fu sicuramente promossa dalla large diffusione delle stampe di Wagner e di Volpato". Come è noto la bottega di Wagner fu per tutta la seconda parte del settecento il centro vitale della incisione veneziana; l'artista tedesco trapiantato a Venezia, viene considerato da Pignatti (1969) "Senza dubbio il maggior incisore professionista del Settecento veneziano".Etching 398 x 295 mm at the stroke. The sheet is part of a series of engravings by Wagner from paintings by Maggiotto and Berardi, about one of which Succi states "The skit was drawn by Wagner from the repertoire that Maggiotto was developing outside the academic and noble line.
