KRAKAUER, GRETE WOLF. SCENES IN ISRAEL. 1927. ----TITLE [Group of 4 Scenes of Life in Israel.] ----PRODUCTION DETAILS: The images are 12"w x 9 ½"h on sheets 13 ¾"w x 11"h. These are colored lithographs, depicting scenes from the Keren Hayesod (Palestine Foundation Fund) settlements in the Emek Jezreel. Signatures of the artist, Grete Wolf Krakauer, are at the lower right. All but No. 1 are signed in pencil with her name and dated 1927. The lithographs were produced by the art printers "Graphica" under the personal supervision of the artist in Jerusalem in 1927. ---LITHOGRAPHS. Four of her colored lithographs, numbered at the lower left, are in this offering. This set is part of a fold of six identified below. The missing two are identified for those of you who wish to complete the original folder. Only three thousand folders were produced, and no folders or individual lithographs were found for sale on the internet. We do not have those two. 1. Tents in Beth Alpha. Beth Alpha is located at the base of Mount Gilboa in the Valley of Jezreel. It is the site of an ancient synagogue (circa 500 CE). 2. Not included. Beth Alpha as seen from above. 3. Emek Jezreel. Also known as "Plain of Esdraelon" and "Valley of Jezreel". It is a large fertile plain and inland valley in the south of the Lower Galilee region of Israel. It is bordered to the south by the Samarian highlands and Mount Gilboa, to the north by the Lower Galilee, to the west by the Mount Carmel range, and to the east by the Jordan Valley. 4. Nahalal. The first moshav, Nahalal, was established in the Valley of Jezreel in 1921. Moshavim are similar to kibbutzim but emphasize the individual family structure (kibbutzim have communal dining and children sleep in separate housing). 5. Sycamore in Tel-Joseph. Tel-Joseph is a kibbutz. 6. Not included. Kindergarten in Nahalal. ----GRETE WOLF KRAKAUER: The artist Grete Wolf Krakauer was born in Vienna in 1890 and studied art at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
