Ilustrado com vinheta xilográfica da Companhia de Jesus encabeçando a primeira página de texto. Único exemplar conhecido, proveniente de uma colectânea de documentos impressos, pois apresenta numeração manuscrita extra e coeva (de 439 a 447) no canto superior direito de cada fólio. Único exemplar conhecido de um impresso com uma petição ao Rei Filipe II de Portugal (III de Espanha), contendo os argumentos jurídicos contra a alienação da Vila de Alenquer e dos termos do património da casa das Rainhas e a favor do Conde de Salinas, que se pretendeu intitular Marquês de Alenquer, prejudicando ? segundo os peticionários ? o direito da sua liberdade, e alheando-os da Coroa por doação ao referido Marquês. Concluem os Procuradores de Alenquer que, à luz das leis portuguesas e da doutrina de outros estados, pode o Rei revogar tal alienação. O título de Marquês de Alenquer foi criado em 13 de Outubro de 1616 por Filipe II de Portugal (III de Espanha) a favor de D. Diogo da Silva y Mendoza, fidalgo de ascendência portuguesa, Vice Rei de Portugal (1617-1621), Duque de Francavila e Conde de Salinas e Ribadeo (títulos espanhóis). In folio. 30x20 cm. 9 folios. Bound at the beginning of the 20th century with waxed canvas spine and corners. Illustrated with a woodcut vignette of the Society of Jesus at the head of the first page of text. Only known copy from a collection of printed documents, as it has extra and coeval handwritten numbering (from 439 to 447) in the top right-hand corner of each folio. The only known copy of a printed petition to King Philip II of Portugal (III of Spain), containing the legal arguments against the alienation of the town of Alenquer and the terms of the estate of the casa das Rainhas (House of Queens) and in favour of the Count of Salinas, who intended to call himself Marquis of Alenquer, damaging - according to the petitioners - their right to freedom, and alienating them from the Crown by donation to the said Marquis. The Procurators of Alenquer conclude that, in the light of Portuguese law and the doctrine of other states, the King can revoke this alienation. The title of Marquis of Alenquer was created on 13 October 1616 by King Philip II of Portugal (III of Spain) in favour of D. Diogo da Silva y Mendoza, a nobleman of Portuguese descent, Viceroy of Portugal (1617-1621), Duke of Francavila and Count of Salinas and Ribadeo (Spanish titles).
