Complete set in near-contemporary calf bindings; original illustrated wrappers, including backstrips, bound in. pp(2)/(2),IV,262/(2), (2)/(4),261,(1)/(2), (2)/(4),230/(2), (2)/(4),236/(2), (2)/(4),222/(2) & (2)/(4),236/(2) including half-titles, and added single blank preliminary & final leaves; with 41 plates - views & costumes - of which 39 in colour (12 fold-out, 2 double-page, 25 single-page) and 2 in black-and-white. Integral narrow ribbon place markers. Folding panoramic colour plate "Chaine des Alpes prise de l'entrée de la promenade de l'Enge" opposite first page of preface in Vol. 1 with misfolds along junction between 2 (of 5) segments, above which a near-closed tear of length 5mm confined to margin. Uniform full speckled calf. Smooth spines titled ("La Suisse"), volume-numbered and decorated in gilt. Boards with decorative gilt borders and gilt-decorated edges. Marbled endpapers, engraved Huet de Froberville bookplate dated 1861 on each front pastedown. Spines lightly rubbed at tails of all six volumes, and at heads of Vols. 4, 5 & 6; wear including loss of up to 4mm at head of Vol. 1, light wear including slight loss at head of Vol. 2, and rubbing at head of Vol. 3 a little heavier than at heads of Vols 4, 5 & 6. Spines otherwise with some fairly minor ingrained patchy darkening, and with gilt here & there a little rubbed & dulled. Hinges lightly rubbed. Boards here & there lightly rubbed and/or grazed. Edges of text-blocks blue-speckled; speckling no longer visible at quite deeply toned upper edges, and a little faded at upper parts of fore-edges. Vol. 1 also with dark spot-stain of diameter just over 1mm at fore-edge, and Vol. 5 with dark spot-stain of diameter up to 3mm at upper edge and light tan stain of length 35mm and width up to 5mm at lower edge; in all three cases, margins of contents unaffected.
