This attractive original old antique print / plate originates from: 'Traite complet de l'anatomie de l'homme, comprenant la medicine operatoire.', by Jean Marc Bourgery, published in Paris by C.A. Delaunay, 1831-54. The detailed illustrations of anatomy and surgery in this work are considered unsurpassed. Each plate comes with the corresponding print index. Made by 'Benard' after 'N.H. Jacob'. The author of this work was Jean Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797-1849). The artist who directed the massive program of prosection, and who was responsible for 512 of the spectacular illustrations, was Nicholas-Henri Jacob (1782-1871) a student of the neo-classical painter of the French Revolution, Jacques-Louis David. This plate by Benard. Good, given age. The sheet discoloured and with scattered foxing/stains. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
