A hand-colored gravure print on thick rag paper from the multi-volume deluxe portfolio entitled "Army and Navy of the United States, 1776-1896" which depicted various U.S. military scenes. The image is 9 x12 " on a sheet measuring 13 x19". Paper is watermarked with the book title. In near fine condition with light dust soiling at top and bottom edges. Jean Andre Castaigne (1860-1929) was a French artist and engraver who relocated to the U.S. in 1890 where he found steady work in the burgeoning world of illustrated books and magazines.
