Reg 3.18.' - Bible illustration for 1 Kings 3: the judgement of Solomon. A soldier stands with his sword drawn, ready to cleave the living child in two. The two mothers are pleading in front of him. Engraved title and 100 engravings by van der Borcht, text. The rare Barrefeldt illustrated Bible of the religious group: Second House of Love. Originally published by Christopher Plantin in 1581. The spiritual ideas of Heil were expressed in the fine series of engravings designed by Pieter van der Borcht. The plates inspired the remonstrants and liberal protestants of the Dutch Republic like Michel Colin (i.e. Michiel Colijn) who was born in Antwerp and settled in Amsterdam as a publisher and bookseller in 1608. A smaller version of the Bible was first printed by Colin in Dutch in 1613. Ref: IconClass 71I324.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Pieter van der Borcht' after an anonymous artist. Pieter van der Borcht (Flemish. 1545-1608) was born in Malines and worked there and in Antwerp. He was one of the first to use the etching-technique extensively. He was the chief illustrator of the famous Antwerp publisher Plantijn.Condition: Excellent, given age. Light crease in right top. We ship worldwide and package our items meticulously. We carry an umbrella insurance policy. Our shipment rates are based on shipments up to 1 kg. For heavier shipments we will contact you with a quote. Currently our surcharge for international shipments over 1 kg is 9,14 euro / kg. In addition POST NL temporarly charges 3,60 euro per kg due to CORONA related logistics. We ship by registered mail through POST NL. Expedited shipping or shipment through another carrier is available on request at a possible surcharge.
