This rare set of songs consists of one sheet, on which you will find the music of the following two songs: "A Loyal Song - for two Voices" and "The Power of Wine - set by mr. Corse". Sheet music accompanied by engravings depicting wine drinking gentlemen. Original etching/engraving on a verge type paper. Description: This very rare attractive (set of) original old antique print(s) originate from: 'Clio and Euterpe or British Harmony - an admired and rare Collection of the most Celebrated Old English and Scotch Songs, Cantates, Duets and Trios. Selected from the Operas Oratorios & composed by the most eminent masters adapted for the ger'n flute violin & harpsicord, embellished with designs and adapted to each song - in III volumes.', published by John Welcker at his Music & Instruments Warehouse, Nop 10 Hay Market, opposite the Opera House. London, 1760. Artists and Engravers: John Welcker of London published the three volumes of "Clio & Euterpe or British Harmony", a collection of 600 pages of songs from the eighteenth Century adorned with beautifully detailed engravings, and sold them in his "Music and Instrument Warehouse" across from the Opera House. In its time such notables as Thomas Jefferson owned a set, and it is certain they were prized volumes in many a musical home in the latter part of the eighteenth century. Condition: Good, given age. A binding hole in the right margin, some discolouration of the sheet edges, ink stains on the verso. Some general age-related toning, please study scan carefully.
