Antique print, titled: 'Hoe dye Hertoghe Maximiliaen met grooter macht track voor dye stede van Condeyt ende ghincke seer vreeselicke bestormen so dat die fransoysen huyter stede vloden metten goede.' - Emperor Maximilian I besieging the city of Conde, resulting in a rout of the French occupying forces. Maximilian I (1459-1519), the son of Frederick III, Holy Roman Emperor, and Eleanor of Portugal, was King of the Romans (also known as King of the Germans) from 1486 and Holy Roman Emperor from 1508 until his death, though he was never in fact crowned by the Pope, the journey to Rome always being too risky. He had ruled jointly with his father for the last ten years of his father's reign, from c. 1483. Woodcut on hand laid paper. Description: This scarse old antique print and incunabel sheet originates from: 'Die excellente Cronike van Vlaenderen .', (transl.: Cronicles / History of Flanders, Belgium) by Roelant de Dappere, published by Willem Vorsterman in Antwerp, 1531. This work has splendit woodcut illustrations. Individual prints from this scarse work are rarely offered.Artists and Engravers: Bibl. Belgica ascribes the main work to Roelant de Doppere and Antoine de Roovere. The author of the second part is still unknown. The publisher of the work: Willem Vorsterman (Flemish 1504-1540 or 1543) was one of the leading and most productive publishers / printers of his time. He published over 200 works in the period 1524-1540. This work is one of his most popular works. The woodcuts in this work were partly assembled from the publishers inventory and partly made for this work by unknown artists. Condition: Good, given age. Right margin and lower sheet edge dampstained (slightly affecting the border around the image). Left edge uneven from binding.
