Antique print, titled: 'Hoe die ionghe Princhersse van Chaerloys Kathelijne sconincx dochtere van Vranckerijcke ghelach van eene ionghe dochtere, ghenaemt Marie. / Hoe dye Hertoghe Phelips van Bourgoengien track met allen sinen heren, wt den Haghe int vulle harnasch, nae die stadt van Utrecht, om sinen sone David daer Bisschop te maken met ghewalt, maer si ontfinghen hem met vrientschepe ende weerdichede.' - Katherine, princess of Charleroi, daughter of the King of France, gives birth to a daughter, Mary. Verso: Philip the Good of Burgundy moves his army from The Hague to Utrecht, to (if necessary) forcibly install his son as Bishop. Philip the Good (French: Philippe le Bon, Dutch: Filips de Goede; 1396-1467) was Duke of Burgundy as Philip III from 1419 until his death. He was a member of a cadet line of the Valois dynasty (the then Royal family of France). During his reign Burgundy reached the apex of its prosperity and prestige and became a leading center of the arts. Woodcut on hand laid paper. Description: This scarse old antique print and incunabel sheet originates from: 'Die excellente Cronike van Vlaenderen .', (transl.: Cronicles / History of Flanders, Belgium) by Roelant de Dappere, published by Willem Vorsterman in Antwerp, 1531. This work has splendit woodcut illustrations. Individual prints from this scarse work are rarely offered.Artists and Engravers: Bibl. Belgica ascribes the main work to Roelant de Doppere and Antoine de Roovere. The author of the second part is still unknown. The publisher of the work: Willem Vorsterman (Flemish 1504-1540 or 1543) was one of the leading and most productive publishers / printers of his time. He published over 200 works in the period 1524-1540. This work is one of his most popular works. The woodcuts in this work were partly assembled from the publishers inventory and partly made for this work by unknown artists. Condition: Good, given age. Left edge uneven from binding. A small wormhole in the top margin. Left and right margin edges faintly dampstained. A small tear in the lower margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
