Top edge gilt. Plates printed on paper of two distinct qualities - one a little toned relative to the other. Occasional minor offsetting from plates. Plate facing page 12 with loss of width up to 7mm along 13mm of fore-edge, extending slightly beyond plate-mark but well away from image and caption. Fore-edge of plate facing page 87 a little untidily cut, though outside of plate-mark. Pages 22 & 23 sparsely spotted; occasional minor spotting elsewheres, mainly at & close to fore-edges. Fore- & lower edges of text-block a little toned, fore-edge also spotted. 19th century quarter red morocco, short & narrow binder's stamp 'Petit Succr. de Simier' at upper edge of verso of front flyleaf. Spine with five raised bands, gilt title, and gilt decorations. Marbled paper-covered boards. Marbled endpapers. A severe bend or break of length 30mm across upper outer corner of rear board; the corner firmly but amateurishly glued back into position, with a little adhesive residue remaining on both outside and inside. Boards otherwise just lightly rubbed along edges and at tips of outer corners. Binding wanting in appearance at rear board, but of very handsome shelf appearance since spine in fine condition, and holding firmly. Contents generally clean and tight. VERY GOOD copy.
