86.Etching on hand laid (verge) paper. Sheet size: 10,9 x 22,8 cm. Image size: 8,2 x 20 cm. From: "Signorum veterum icones" by Jan de Bisschop (Joh. Episcopius ), published in 1668. It is a collection of Roman statues / sculptures of Roman gods, emperors, mythological figures, fauns etc. The plates in this work are engraved after his own drawings or after the drawings of Doncker, De Geyn, Dondyns, Matham, Ferreris and others.Made by Jan de Bisschop after De Bisschop and others. Jan de Bisschop (1628-1671) was widely influential in art and art publishing. A lawyer by profession, he set up practice in The Hague around 1652 and later founded a drawing academy there. He mingled with an elite circle of intellectuals. Condition: Good, given age. A few minor crinkles. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. We ship worldwide and package our items meticulously. We carry an umbrella insurance policy. Our shipment rates are based on shipments up to 1 kg. For heavier shipments we will contact you with a quote. Currently our surcharge for international shipments over 1 kg is 9,14 euro / kg. In addition POST NL temporarly charges 3,60 euro per kg due to CORONA related logistics. We ship by registered mail through POST NL.
