Wood-engraving, 101 x 142mm (block 48 x 67mm). Edition limited to 100 numbered copies signed by the artist. Iain Bain commissioned bookplates from Reynolds Stone, Richard Shirley Smith and Michael Harvey. His first commission from Shirley Smith, in 1980, sought to commemorate his Scottish roots. This smaller bookplate, executed three years later, reads simply "I S B", for Iain Stuart Bain. In 1994 Bain published with Silent Books The Wood Engravings of Richard Shirley Smith, a selection with a "complete catalogue" of engravings, 1960-89. This bookplate appears as no. 253.
