Technic: Copper print- Aquatinta, colorit: original colored, condition: Perfect condition, size (in cm): 44 x 60,5 cm; - Decorative view of H.M. Steam Frigate, Geysir. Painted from Knell and issued from Ackermann. This print shows the frigate sailing in front of a point of land (Mt. Edgecombe in the Kwazula Natal district of South Africa) on which stands a fort. A smaller ship sails behind the Geyser. Sir John Barrow was Secretary of the Admiralty for forty years. Previous to that he had lived in South Africa for a time and journeyed into the interior. He was a founding member of the Royal Geographic Society, the UK's learned society and professional body for geography, founded in 1830 for the advancement of geographical sciences. Painted from Knell, issued by Ackermann & Co. ir John Barrow, was an English statesman and writer. In 1797, Barrow accompanied Lord Macartney as private secretary in his important and delicate mission to settle the government of the newly acquired colony of the Cape of Good Hope.
