You can love Jesus with all your heart and still honestly admit: I’m not okay.
I Love Jesus, but I’m Not Okay is a Christian guide to depression and anxiety, written for believers who feel that their faith does not seem to fit with what they are experiencing inside. For many people of faith, depression brings more than sadness, exhaustion, and confusion. It can also bring guilt, shame, and difficult questions: Why do I feel this way if I have faith? Am I failing God? Should I pray more? Does seeking professional help mean I trust Him less?
This book opens a necessary conversation about depression among Christians and Christian mental health. With sensitivity, spiritual depth, and a deeply human perspective, it challenges the clichés that reduce emotional suffering to a lack of prayer, weakness of character, or absence of faith.
Through inspiring stories of biblical figures and Christians who walked through seasons of darkness, loss, spiritual exhaustion, and emotional pain, the author shows that suffering does not cancel faith. He also shares personal experiences that help readers understand depression and anxiety from a place that is personal, honest, and free from condemnation.
These pages explore topics such as Christian mental health, grief, spiritual exhaustion, religious guilt, the silence of God, anxiety, anger with God, and the importance of asking for help. Readers are invited to view depression with greater compassion and to understand that prayer, pastoral support, a faith community, and psychological therapy can complement one another rather than compete.
This is not a book of quick answers or a collection of motivational phrases. Nor is it intended to replace diagnosis, guidance, or treatment from a mental health professional. It is an honest guide for those who need to understand what they are going through, and for those who want to support someone with depression without judging them, minimizing their pain, or pressuring them to be okay too soon.
I Love Jesus, but I’m Not Okay is written for believers facing depression, anxiety, grief, or emotional exhaustion; for family members and friends who want to learn how to offer more compassionate support; and for pastors, leaders, and Christian communities who recognize the need to talk openly about mental health in the church.
Faith does not always remove the darkness immediately, but it can sustain us as we seek help, walk through the process, and learn to receive grace in the middle of our fragility. Admitting that you are not okay does not mean you have stopped loving Jesus. Depression may be a difficult chapter, but it is never your whole story. Sometimes, acknowledging the pain is the first step toward no longer hiding it and beginning the journey toward recovery.
