Beschreibung:

This is the marvelous May 1896 issue of "The Book Buyer", which announced on each cover that the magazine was "A Summary of American and Foreign Literature. This issue is particularly rich, not only in textual content, but, also, in illustrative accompaniment. Articles focus on the amazing talent of Will H. Bradley, whose intricately devised and beautiful Art Nouveau pictures graced "The Inland Printer" , "The Chap Book" and many other publications of the time as well as contemporary art posters; there are reproductions of several of his works that accompany the article on him. The issue starts out with an appreciation of Lacadio Hearn, who was among the first American writers to appreciate and write about Japan and the Far East. He is famous for translations as well as original stories concerning Japan. His book, "Kokoro" is discussed. Other authors discussed in articles are John Banister Tabb (Father Tabb), Clinton Ross, and Frederick Locker - Lampson, whose obscurity for modern readers may be excused - but his autobiographical memoir ("My Confidences" - genial, self-deprecating, amusing and insightful, is worth seeking out. There is much else in this issue, including an appreciation of what was then all the rage : Japanese drawings. Please scroll down for a complete Table of Contents. The cover design for "The Book Buyer", which remained the same through each of its issues, was drawn by American artist Will H. Low (Will Hicok Low). The picture was signed in the plate (lower right corner). ///// TITLE : The Book Buyer A summary of American and Foreign Literature. ISSUE : Vol. XIII, No. 4. DATE : May 1896.
