Beschreibung:

Winter 1965/66. 4to. Stab-stapled. [x], [100pp.]. Cover by Magdalene Sinclair. The editor says of his introduction: 'I write this now four hours before I am to appear in court to be sentenced on a count of possession of marijuana, trying to finish up what work is to be done in case I am sent to prison.' The issue includes a homage to Rainer Maria Gerhardt edited by Tom Raworth, anthologising work by Gerhardt (translated by Cid Corman, Magdalene Sinclair, and Anselm Hollo) alongside contributions by Charles Olson, Robert Creeley, Jonathan Williams, Hollo, and Ernst Robert Curtius, plus 2pp. of related photographs. This tribute was originally scheduled for issue 3 of Raworth's 'Outburst'. Also George Tysh, Robin Eichele, Ron Caplan, Jerry Younkins (plus the back cover), Allen Van Newkirk, John Sinclair, and more. One sheet bound back-to-front, one page printed upside-down. Mild peripheral fading to front cover, which is slightly creased, otherwise about Very Good, lightly soiled and rubbed, a few sheets with a little edgewear. Loosely inserted is a folded sheet (folio, printed on one side only) advertising this issue and 'whe're' magazine, from the same press. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 002641

Softcover. Zustand: Fine. Magazine. Cover by John Dana, Charles Moore, and Stanley Cowell. Quarto. Stapled red printed wrappers. 98pp. A bit of toning to the pages, else fine. A magazine edited by Sixties poet and radical, John Sinclair, co-founder of the White Panthers Party, and one-time manager of the band MC5. This issue of the magazine was rushed into production shortly before Sinclair was to report to jail for an earlier conviction for selling marihuana to an undercover agent. His incarceration lead to a host of protests, most notably Allen Ginsberg, who rushed the stage during The Who's Woodstock performance to plead Sinclair's case, and John Lennon, who recorded the song "John Sinclair" on his album, *Some Time in New York City*. Among the contributors are Robert Creeley, Jonathan Williams, Charles Olson, Anselm Hollo, Ernst Robert Curtius, Reiner M. Gerhardt, Ed Roberson, David Federman, Steve Jonas, Allen Van Newkirk, George Tysh, J.D. Whitney, Bill Hutton, David Sinclair, Joe Groppuso, Jim Semark, Henry Malone, Jerry Younkins, Arnold Shulsky, D. Welsh, Marshall Rosenthal, Robin Eichele, and Kenny Schooner. Sinclair is a Detroit poet who was the leader of the White Panther Party, an activist, underground newspaper editor and the manager of the MC5 rock group. The rear cover is an American Flag of red and white stripes and skull & crossbones/$ signs on a blue field by Jerry Younkins. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 138895
