Eliphalet Nott (1773-1866) served as the president of Union College for more than 60 years. He also served as President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 1829-1845. A holder of numerous scientific patents, he is most noted for being the inventor of the first stove to burn anthracite coal. This part-printed check is written in 1843 from the Troy Farmer's Bank for a significant sum. $892.79, and signed "Eliph' Nott". 2" x 7".
