EINSTEIN ON THE CONCEPT OF PEACE: A POWERFUL AUTOGRAPH STATEMENT IN EXCEPTIONALLY LARGE FORMAT. â . Translated from the original German: "No person has the moral right to call himself a Christian or Jew so long as he is prepared to engage in systematic murder at the command of an authority, or allow himself to be used in any way in the service of war or the preparation for it." Starting in 1925, the French Academy began sending large (11.5x16.5) sheets to important scientists, writers, and intellectuals asking them to write on the sheet a statement on the concept of peace for possible inclusion in an anthology. (The World League for Peace later released a limited edition of prints from the submissions under the title Pax Mundi: livre d'or de la paix.) This is Einstein's unique manuscript submission. A highly unusual format with exceptionally large Einstein signature (2.25 in / 6 cm) of an important Einstein statement, consistent with his life-long dedication to pacifism. c.1925-1930. One large folio page (11.5 x 16.5 inches). In German. Fine condition. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 2349

Octavo, one page. Good, on lightly aged and creased paper, with the merest hint of a damp stain. English translation in contemporary hand on separate piece of 12mo paper, with slight loss at head (not affecting text). She has received no acknowledgement from him for 'the autograph which I sent you and a little book of verse sold for the benefit of the soldier who wrote them. The little book ought to be sold for at least 75 cents. I think that with the autograph you will be able to find that the price is not too great, and you can send me this small amount, if not return the little book to me for I must sell it on behalf of another'. Non-conformist divine, theologian, preacher and miscellaneous writer (1830-1902). The letter: two pages (on first leaf of bifoliate), 12mo, very good though a little grubby. The declaration: one page, 12mo, creased and grubby. A line from the 'P' of Parker's florid signature on the letter extends horizontally across to the recto of the otherwise blank second leaf of the bifoliate, the verso of which is glued to a quarto leaf. The declaration is glued over the second leaf of the letter, partly obscuring the tip of the signature line. Letter informs Stuart that Parker does not at present 'know of any newspaper vacancies anywhere. I wish I did. dont act hurriedly, wd. be my suggestion if you gave me permission to make one. I fancy your purpose wd. be best met by a face to face interview with some spirited editor.' He can depend on Parker's 'co-operation in any reasonable degree.' He has 'pleasant remembrances of [Stuart's] kindness' whilst he was at Ventor. The 'Declaration' reads: 'Xy [^ - ie Christianity -] as expounded by the Christ & lived by the Christ is the sublimest idea known to human history, & will do more for mankind than can be done by any other thought known to human intelligence.'.
