Champion's bright, durable high finish standard white paper brand, Kromekote, was already a leader in the printing industry when it announced a game changer: The addition of pink, blue, ivory, green and yellow. Mid-Century artistic values insisted on a more complicated relationship to design and color. This brochure is the work of artist and graphic designer, Noel Martin, who eventually became the principal catalog designer for the Cincinnati Art Museum. The sharp and chic modern graphic designs of Mid-Century also demanded a superior paper that could translate cleanly to letterpress and lithography. With the invention of quality paper like Kromekote, graphics and typography in promotional material such as programs, menus and catalogs have become a collectible form of industrial art. This particular Kromekote brochure is a classic of design and color featuring beautiful examples of art, printing, type face and lithography. In 1953, Noel Martin was included in the prestigious "Four American Graphic Designers" exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art. (Champion was one of the largest coated paper companies before World War II.) Includes two (2) announcements for Noel Martin's 1955 exhibition at the STA and one duo-color announcement of Noel Martin's 1958 exhibit at the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
