An early photographically illustrated leaflet for the Connecticut Humane Society, incorporated in 1881 "To Promote Humanity and Kindness" (first leaf recto). Includes a heart-wrenching story about a neglected horse, as well as a heart-warming story about a pony who found a forever family. Contrary to the Society's modern work, which involves solely animal-related welfare activities, this leaflet also includes two sections titled "Child Protection" and "An Old Man", showing that the Society provided relief and humanitarian work for people as well as animals in 1920. "Child Protection" describes the Society's efforts to find abandoned children an ethical foster home, while "An Old Man" describes, in sentimental prose, the plight of an elderly blind man who was able to seek relief through the organization.
