An almanac which also served to promote the temperance movement and advertise for the patent medicine known as Dr. Walker's California Vinegar Bitters. The bitters were promoted as being "free from alcohol" and served to purify the blood and cure a variety of ailments, such as: fevers, dyspepsia, skin diseases, chronic and inflammatory rheumatism, tape worms, consumption, mechanical diseases (suffered by people who worked in paints and minerals like plumbers and miners), feminine diseases, scrofula, kidney complaints, diarrhea, and jaundice. The booklet includes several testimonials from satisfied customers. In addition to the advertisements for the bitters, is information on the temperance movement and the dangers of alcohol and tobacco. Included is a black and white illustration of a man terrorizing his family during drunken rage. The front cover features a black and white illustration of a woman wearing a "Total Abstinence" sash using a hammer and nail to break a large bottle of rum which looks more like a cannon, with a skeleton in the background. "Spiking the Guns" is inscribed at the base. The back cover depicts a black and white illustration of a young family, parents and four children, playing at home with the "Twelve Reasons for Prohibition of the Traffic in Intoxicating Liquors" listed below. 31 pgs.
