This waist-up portrait photograph of Edward Teller is signed by the Hungarian-American theoretical physicist in blue ink. The image shows an aging Teller in a relaxed seated position with a pensive expression on his face. Edward Teller (1908-2003) is known as the "father of the hydrogen bomb" and is one of the creators of the Teller-Ulam design, a technical concept behind modern thermonuclear weapons. His work with J. Robert Oppenheimer on the Manhattan Project during World War II developed the first atomic bomb. 7" x 5".
