Beschreibung
French sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) scrawled and signed this brief note to a friend in which he laments that he will not be able to visit because he isn't feeling well. He writes in French: "I have lumbago and am still ill. I cannot come on Wednesday and am very unhappy about it. It seems I have very bad luck. My respects to Madam. Rodin". Aside from this bout of lower back soreness, Rodin was plagued with ailments throughout his life and died after a year-long battle with the flu. Rodin is considered the founder of modern sculpture and is known for producing very emotive, naturalistic works. Some of his most famous sculptures include The Thinker, The Kiss, The Burghers of Calais, and The Gates of Hell. Written on a stiff piece of paper that measures: 3 1/2" x 4 5/8". Condition: Lightly soiled at corners, 1 1/2" crease at left side, mounting remnants on verso. Generally good condition. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers A01666
