Beschreibung:

First edition. Folding frontispiece map, and 12 lithographed plates. 8vo. Contemporary half calf with gilt spine and marbled paper boards, some wear. Occasional light foxing. Bookplate to upper pastedown. xvi, 152pp., with errata slip. London, John Murray, Blackmer 532: "Edmondstone was in Egypt in January, 1819, where he met Belzoni who encouraged him in his undertaking to visit the oases of Upper Egypt and Dakel. The ruins in the Great Oasis at Thebes had been visited previously only by Cailliaud, while Edmonstone's party followed Drovetti to the Oasis of Dakel by only three days. Edmonstone has produced a very detailed and interesting account of his explorations. The plates illustrate monuments in the oases and also include architectural diagrams; they are lithographed after drawings by Edmonstone and Robert Master, a member of his party." Ibrahim-Hilmy I, 213. Not in Abbey. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 219173
