Cardstock. (14cm x 15.5 cm.) Black illustration on beige, heavy stock paper. Light creasing and staining to the edges, not affecting images. Name in pencil at the bottom right corner. Fine. Because of the rationing and demands of World War II, immediate changes were made in the home front apparel industry as material choices were limited to support the war effort. "War Wise" dressing is noted for a simplification of decorative elements, especially in women's clothing. This illustrated blouse, for instance, is most likely an advertising mock-up for use in marketing. The illustration exemplifies the imitation of menswear style of women's blouses at the time with its angular point collar, button-up front and puff sleeves. This war time limitation of decorative elements in women's clothing created the virtually unadorned, clean style, we associate with American women's clothing today. This image may be from an advertising campaign as what is believed to be the illustrator's name is written in pencil on the bottom right corner. A rare find with an attributed name still present.
