Beschreibung:

Small 4to. Stiff blue stock. (4pp). Very good. Faint edgewear, with several small edge tears along bottom. Very scarce program for this unusual stage version of "The Old Curiosity Shop" featuring the famed American actress Carlotta Crabtree (1847-1924). In 1884 Charles Dickens Jr. (1837-96), the eldest child of Charles Dickens, made this stage adaptation. Front page features a decorative border (advertising "Epps's (Grateful Comforting) Cocoa") within which is announced that "Mr. HARRY JACKSON has much pleasure in announcing that he has arranged with Mr. CHARLES DICKENS for an entirely New Adaptation of his Father's novel" and show times and prices appear, ranging from the Gallery at one shilling up to Private Boxes at one, two and three guineas. Inner pages list the full cast and spell out each act and scene. Fourth page consists of pictorial advertisements for such products as Brinsmead Pianos, Murray's American Caramels, Barrett's Patent Screw Stoppered Bottes and others. Though not dated, this performance took place on March 3, 1884. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 40444
