Beschreibung
An Original Typed Letter and Signed by Laurence Olivier. Olivier writes on May19th 1947 to the theatre director, E. Martin Browne, who was the first producer of many of the plays of T.S. Eliot, including Murder in the Cathedral: Dear Martin Browne, I think it only fair to warn you that I have taken the unpardonable liberty of putting a Miss Maria Fein on to you. She is an Austrian actress with an Austrian troup, who is anxious to come to England, and I understand from the Arts Council that the only possibility of her doing this is by some kind of a swap. She will doubtless write to you on the subject. If the idea doesn?t appeal to you, of course, you have only to say you can?t cope with it. I am so sorry to do this rather ungracious thing of apparently passing the buck to you, but she asked me to help her, and yours was the only set-up I have been able to think of that might conceivably suit her purpose and possibly your own. Best wishes, As ever L. Olivier Maria Fein (1892?1965) was an Austrian actress who became a star of German theatre and film before the rise of the Nazis forced her departure. She toured England in the early 1950s and appeared on BBC Radio, including an English-language adaptation of Brecht?s Mutter Courage in 1956. The letter, 10?x 8?, is typed on a sheet of notepaper from Laurence Olivier Productions Limited, although Olivier has typed ?Denham Studios, Middlesex? (where he was making Hamlet). It has folds and light creasing. Laurence Kerr Olivier, Baron Olivier 1907-1989 was an English actor and director who, along with his contemporaries Ralph Richardson and John Gielgud, was one of a trio of male actors who dominated the British stage of the mid-20th century. He also worked in films throughout his career, playing more than fifty cinema roles. Late in his career, he had considerable success in television roles. Condition is good. Letter with folding creases. More images can be taken upon request. Ref17016. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 024435
