An Original Written and Signed Letter by Writer of Peter Pan from J M Barrie. Undated. A charming and rather amusing letter handwritten by author and playwright J.M. Barrie on his own 5.5? by 7? Adelphi Terrace House notepaper. The four-sided paper is written only on page one and is dated ?19 June? but no year is given*. It reads: ?Dear Miss Browne, in answer to your letter I will sign your autograph book with pleasure if you send it me, but I am sorry I am too busy to write in it. / Sincerely / J.M. Barrie?. It is not known whether, having obtained the required autograph, Miss Browne bothered to send Barrie her book! Sir James Matthew Barrie, 1st Baronet, 1860-1937 was a Scottish novelist and playwright, best remembered as the creator of Peter Pan. He was born and educated in Scotland and then moved to London, where he wrote several successful novels and plays. There he met the Llewelyn Davies boys, who inspired him to write about a baby boy who has magical adventures in Kensington Gardens (first included in Barrie's 1902 adult novel The Little White Bird), then to write Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up, a 1904 West End "fairy play" about an ageless boy and an ordinary girl named Wendy who have adventures in the fantasy setting of Neverland.Size of letter is 180mm x 140mm.
