Manuscript pages, notes and a 1977 letter from author Joseph Kastner to the Detroit Public Library donating the materials to an upcoming auction. "A Species of Eternity" has biographies of 18th and 19th-century naturalists who strove forward, overcoming all obstacles, in their passion to better understand the natural world (and classify same). The book was nominated for a National Book Award and well reviewed by the New York Times, The New York Review of Books and Sports Illustrated (Larry Bird on the cover, natch). Also included are "a few of the several thousand call slips I made out at several libraries in the course of research." All still held together by the same red string knotted by the late author. This bundle was recently found among the papers of a late Detroit publisher who had successfully bid for the lot at the DPL. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 000841
