Richard Howard Stafford Crossman (1907-1974) Labour politician. Rare TLS from Crossman on House of Commons headed notepaper dated 4th May 1972 to P(hilip) Dosse, magazine publisher, including 'Books and Bookman' for whom he has asked Crossman to review books. He begins by suggesting someone else to review a book (probably 'The Collected Writings of John Maynard Keynes', published that year) He goes on I am not very keen on doing Keynes and I had better make it clear that I have no training in economics and was by profession at Oxford a political philosopher specialising in Plato and Aristotle. He goes on to mention the kinds of books he would be able to review and finishes by asking what Dosse pays fro reviews. he signs off, R H S Crossman. In an autograph addition Crossman writes that I would review Wigg or Gordon Walker. George Wigg and Patrick Gordon Walker, Labour politicians both had books out at that time. Good condition.
