c1820 paper, Letter / petition to Seth William Stevenson, (antiquary, editor of the Norfolk Chronicle) an undated probably mid-19th century ‘petition’ to Seth William Stevenson from three acquaintances stating that they think his hair looks awful and needs cutting.

The paper was made in 1820 (watermark), so written c1820-1821. Condition Good, minor edge miss folding, minor dirt, some remains of old edge tape that was from where it was held most likely for almost 200 years, signed by all 3 authors H. Feltham? Aston, R.H. Woods & John Graham Brice?, as signed not sure of spelling. Written on 4 pages. Seth William Stevenson (born 1784 died 1853), antiquary, was born at Norwich in 1784. In 1828 he was nominated a sheriff of the city of Norwich, became an alderman in the same year, and served the office of mayor in 1832. He was elected an associate of the British Archaeological Association in 1845, and on the establishment of the Numismatic Society in 1836 he became a member. For many years all his leisure time was engaged in composing a complete dictionary of Roman coins. He died at Cambridge on 22 December 1853, in the house of his son-in-law, John Deighton, surgeon. His father, William Stevenson (1741?1821), publisher and author, and was a printer and publisher in the marketplace at Norwich, the firm being Stevenson, Matchett, & Stevenson. For thirty-five years from 1785 or 1786 he was the proprietor of the 'Norfolk Chronicle'. He died in Surrey Street, Norwich, on 13 May 1821.
