Title page a little foxed, margins of first two leaves creased, otherwise a bright clean example in a decent binding. Dobson (1732-84) was an interesting man; he graduated from the University of Glasgow, then Edinburgh when he moved to Liverpool, and was active in starting up the Academy of Art. From there, he went to London, where he became part the intellectual group that surrounded Johnson. A good observer, he is regarded as the first to diagnose diabetes as being the result of a failure to metabolize sugar. In this work, he discusses the role of carbon dioxide in medical treatments.
