Beschreibung
Privately bound collection of Victorian parlour and concert music for the piano, dating from 1846 to 1872. Various composers and publishers. Half-leather with brown cloth, gilt decoration and lettering. Front cover has the name Emma L. Warren in decorated gilt text box. Spine in six panels with six gilt bands. Each panel has a harp decoration except the second which has the word MUSIC . Covers are much bumped and rubbed with significant wear especially to corners. Spine has damage to top and bottom and has been partly detached; rough repairs have been done with Sellotape. Binding remains secure. Tan endpapers. Contents comprise: John Pridham, Grand Military Divertimento [for voice and piano], with pictorial cover (1872); W. S. Rockstro, Whispers from Erin [for pianoforte] (1867); Rosa, Air with Variations [for piano] (1873); A. P. Wyman, Silvery Waves [for pianoforte], (1876); W. Smallwood, The Fairy Barque [for pianoforte] (1872) has a few pencil annotations and neat tear on final page; Thomas Chantery, Happy Land [for piano] (s.d. not in BL) has some pencil fingerings; Charles Coote, La fille de Madame Angot, quadrille [for pianoforte], with pictorial front cover colour lithograph by Raphael Thomson (1874); Viviani, The silver trumpets: played at St. Peter s at Rome [for the pianoforte] (s.d., this edition not in the BL) pictorial covers; William Youens, The opera Schottische [for the pianoforte], (circa 1850-1851); Sydney Smith, Maypole Dance [for the pianoforte] (circa 1866-1868); Theodore Oesten, Gondellied [for the pianoforte] (circa 1860s, this edition not in the BL); T. Badarzewska, La priere d une vierge [pour piano] (1861); W. Borrow, The murmur of the stream, valse brilliante [for the piano forte] (1855); Wilhelm Kuhe, The Gipsies revel, characteristic piece [for pianoforte] (1868); G. Rossini, Overture to Tancredi [arranged for piano] (Musical Bouquet) (1846). Occasional pencil markings and one tear as described above; otherwise the contents clean and bright.
