Elgar was England's greatest late romantic composer. His symphonies, the "Enigma Variations" and oratorios made him the toast of Europe and America during his lifetime. Simon Mundy has also written the Purcell and Tchaikovsky volumes in this series as well as three books of poems and several monographs on policy for the arts. He broadcasts on radio frequently and, in the 1990s, was director fo Britain's National Campaign for the Arts and co-founder of the European Forum for the Arts and Heritage.
