Annotated by David Kuhner, cataloged by Tanya Rizzo, with an introduction by Cyril Stanley Smith. Herbert Clark Hoover (1874-1964) was an American engineer, businessman, and politician who served as the 31st President of the United States from 1929 to 1933. His collection of books on mining and metallurgy, mostly acquired before 1914, was transferred to Claremont College in 1970. The catalogue comprises 912 entries. An attractively produced catalogue, designed and printed at the Arion Press, of the personal library of about nine hundred volumes on the history of sciences collected by President Herbert Clark Hoover and his wife. Hoover had travelled the world in the early 1900s as a consulting mining engineer, building up a fine collection of rare books, especially pre-1800 titles in the fields of mining, mathematics, astronomy and alchemy, natural history, and geology. Entries include title-page transcriptions, bibliographical descriptions and sometimes provenance notes or general annotations.
